Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art - Preview on Nikon D800

This is my first Sigma lens ever and wow I am impressed. Sigma has made such a buzz with their Art series lenses and the 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is their latest.

From the first look and touch I was drawn to it straight away. It looks very handsome and luxurious, the build is fastastic got the real pro feel to it, dare I say even more so than Nikon 85mm F1.4G. I love the feeling of focus ring and the lens hood, however, when the lens hood is on it is a bit harder to put on the lens cap.

I took it out for a quick test during the lunch break and starting shooting away on my D800. I have found that the focus is good and fast but compare with Nikon 50mm F1.4G, Nikon is a bit better on that but only just a tiny bit as it hunts a bit less.

After a few pictures taken I have noticed straight away that this lens is SHARP very very sharp. See for yourself from the pictures above. It also resists the Chromatic aberration (CA) very well much much better than Nikon as it will be plagued with CA at F1.4.

With F1.4 of course we have to talk about 'Bokeh'. And as expected it is very nice and smooth.

Then came the night time, now it is bokehlicious time with city light. The Sigma still performed very nicely. Focus is still very fast and accurate.

From these short period of time that I spent with this lens, I know straight away that me and this Sigma will be best of friend for a long time. I will use this lens more on my portrait session this coming weekend and I will update you guys more with the performance of this lens in the studio environment.

Please enjoy the rest of the pictures.
